How much does a new bathroom cost?
Every bathroom is priced individually, so we do not publish set prices. The cost depends on the size of the room, whether the layout changes, the suite and tiles you choose, the condition behind the old tiles and access to your home. After a free survey you get a competitive, fixed-price written quote that shows exactly what is included, and the price only changes if you change the plan.
Is the survey really free?
Yes. The survey is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We visit your home, measure the room, check the walls, floor, plumbing and drainage, and talk through what you would like. Then we send you a fixed-price written quote. You are free to take your time, ask questions and compare it with other quotes before you decide.
How do payments work?
You pay a deposit to secure your installation date, and the balance is due when your bathroom is complete, so you never pay the full amount up front. Before any payment, you get a fixed-price written quote after a free survey, so you know the full cost before you commit. The price only changes if you change the plan, such as choosing a different suite.
Do you charge VAT?
No. Glasgow Bathroom Fitter is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added to our quotes or invoices. The price on your written quote is the price you pay for the work it describes, including any suite, tiles or products we supply. If you buy your own products for a fit-only job, the retailer's price will already include any VAT they charge.
Do I need a building warrant for a new bathroom?
Usually not, if you are replacing a bathroom like for like in the same layout. A building warrant from your council can be needed if you move drainage, make structural changes, create a new bathroom such as an en-suite, or alter a flat. We tell you at the free survey whether your plans are likely to need one, and if they do, we handle the application for you.
Do you fit bathrooms in tenement flats?
Yes. We have fitted more than 60 tenement bathrooms across Glasgow and Renfrewshire. Tenement bathrooms are often narrow, share a soil stack with the flats above and below, and sit on older joists, so we plan the layout around them. We also protect and clean the close every day and arrange the skip and council permit for the old bathroom.
Can you help me design my bathroom?
Yes. We give practical layout advice at your free survey, based on the size of the room, where the pipes and soil stack run, and how you use the bathroom. We do not produce 3D design drawings, but we explain clearly what will go where before you commit, and everything we agree is written into your fixed-price quote, so there are no surprises on the day.
How long does it take to fit a bathroom?
Most full bathrooms take 5 to 10 working days from strip-out to handover. A walk-in shower on its own usually takes 1 to 2 days, and a bath-to-shower conversion usually takes 2 to 3 days. En-suites and accessible bathrooms usually take 1 to 2 weeks, and wet rooms take longer because of the waterproofing. We give you a timescale with your written quote.
Will I have a working toilet during the work?
We aim to leave you with a working toilet each evening wherever possible, because we know how hard it is to live without one. The shower or bath will be out of use while it is being fitted. If your home has a second bathroom or a separate toilet, the work is even easier to live with. We talk through the plan at your free survey.
Who will be working in my home?
Our own fitters work in your home, and any electrical work is done and certified by a registered electrician we work with. You have one project manager from the free survey to handover, so you always know who to call with a question. The business was founded by James McCallum and has 15 years of experience fitting bathrooms in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.
What if you find a problem behind the old tiles?
If we find a hidden problem after the strip-out, such as rotten joists, damaged plaster or old pipework, we stop and show it to you. We then give you a fixed price to put it right and only carry on once you agree. That way the price never changes without your say, and you can see exactly why any extra work is needed.
Do you take away the old bathroom?
Yes. On a full renovation, stripping out the old bathroom and taking away the waste is included in your quote. We arrange a skip, and where it has to sit on a public road we arrange the council permit too. You do not need to organise anything yourself, and we leave the room clean and ready for the new bathroom to go in.
Do you supply the suite and tiles?
Yes. We can supply and fit everything, from the suite and shower to the tiles and flooring, all in one fixed-price quote. If you have already bought your own suite or tiles, our fit-only service installs them for you instead. We also take on tiling-only jobs for walls, floors and shower areas. Whichever option you choose, our own team does the work.
What is the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?
A wet room is a fully waterproofed room with a level floor that falls gently to a drain, so there is no step at all. A walk-in shower uses a low-profile tray with a frameless glass panel and has a low step. Wet rooms suit step-free access and take longer to build, while walk-in showers suit most bathrooms and are quicker to fit.
Can you adapt a bathroom for someone with limited mobility?
Yes. We fit level-access showers, wet rooms, walk-in baths, grab rails, fold-down shower seats, comfort-height toilets and wall-hung basins with lever taps. If an occupational therapist has assessed your needs, we quote and fit to their recommendations. Councils in Scotland can help with the cost through the Scheme of Assistance after an occupational therapist assessment. See our accessible bathroom adaptations page for more.
What types of shower do you fit?
We fit thermostatic mixer showers, electric showers and power showers. A mixer suits combi boilers and mains-pressure systems, an electric shower heats cold mains water itself, and a power shower boosts low pressure on tank-fed systems. Electric showers need their own circuit, which a registered electrician we work with fits and certifies. We check your water system at the survey.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes. Every installation carries our 2-year workmanship guarantee from the day the job is finished. The products we fit, such as suites, showers and taps, are also covered by their manufacturers' warranties, and any electrical work comes with a certificate from our registered electrician. Because we manage the whole job, you deal directly with us if you ever need to use the guarantee.
Are you members of any trade bodies or review sites?
We are members of Checkatrade and TrustATrader, and our customers rate us 4.8 out of 5 from 36 Google reviews. Both membership sites list local trades and publish reviews from their customers. We are happy to talk about recent jobs near you at your free survey, so you can ask us anything about our work before you decide to go ahead.
