Costs and planning
How long does it take to fit a bathroom?
Most bathrooms we fit take 5 to 10 working days from strip-out to handover. A walk-in shower on its own usually takes 1 to 2 days, a bath-to-shower conversion 2 to 3 days, and en-suites and accessible bathrooms usually 1 to 2 weeks. Wet rooms take longer because the waterproofing needs time to cure. This guide walks through each stage of a typical renovation.
Typical timescales by job
| Job | Usual timescale with us |
|---|---|
| Full bathroom renovation | 5 to 10 working days |
| Walk-in shower only | Usually 1 to 2 days |
| Bath-to-shower conversion | Usually 2 to 3 days |
| En-suite | Usually 1 to 2 weeks |
| Accessible bathroom | Usually 1 to 2 weeks |
| Wet room | Longer than a standard refit |
The stages of a bathroom renovation
- Strip-out: the old suite, tiles and waste are removed.
- First fix: pipework, waste pipes and any wiring are put in place.
- Boarding and plastering: walls and floors are made sound and flat.
- Waterproofing: wet areas are tanked and left to cure.
- Tiling and flooring: tiles are fixed, grouted and sealed.
- Second fix: the bath, shower, toilet, basin and taps are connected.
- Finishing and handover: decorating, a final check and a walk-through.
What can make it take longer?
- Hidden problems found after the strip-out, such as rotten joists or old pipework.
- Layout changes that need new drainage.
- Products that arrive late or damaged.
- Drying and curing times for waterproofing, screeds and plaster.
- A building warrant, which must be approved before work starts: see our building warrant guide.

How long does a full bathroom renovation take?
Most bathrooms we fit take 5 to 10 working days from strip-out to handover. The time depends on the size of the room, whether the layout changes, how much tiling there is and what is found behind the old tiles. We give you a timescale for your bathroom with your written quote, so you know how long the room will be out of use.
Why do wet rooms take longer than bathrooms?
A wet room needs the floor shaped to fall to a drain and the floor and lower walls waterproofed before tiling. The waterproofing and any screed need time to cure properly, and rushing it risks leaks. That is why wet rooms take longer than a standard refit with a bath or shower tray. We give you a timescale for your wet room with your written quote.
Will I have a toilet during my bathroom renovation?
We aim to leave you with a working toilet each evening wherever possible, because we know how hard it is to manage without one. The bath or shower will be out of use while it is being fitted. If you have a second toilet or bathroom, the work is easier to live with. We talk through the plan at your survey.
Can a bathroom be fitted in a week?
Often, yes. Many straightforward bathrooms are finished within a week or two, and our usual range is 5 to 10 working days. Smaller jobs are quicker: a walk-in shower on its own usually takes 1 to 2 days. Layout changes, wet rooms and hidden problems add time, which is why we confirm the timescale for your own bathroom. Ask for a timescale in writing.
