Supply and fit vs fit-only: which is better for your bathroom?

With supply and fit, your fitter sources the products and the quote covers everything. With fit-only, you buy the bathroom and pay only for the installation. Fit-only can save money if you find a good deal, but you take on choosing, ordering and checking every product. This guide compares both, including what happens if a product is faulty.

When fit-only makes sense

Fit-only suits you if you have already bought your bathroom, found a deal you are happy with, or want a specific product from a particular retailer. Order everything the job needs, including wastes, traps and fixings, and around 10% extra tiles for cuts. Measure doorways and stairs before you buy.

When supply and fit makes sense

Supply and fit suits you if you want one company to handle everything, including the ordering and any problems with products. It also avoids buying something that does not suit the room. See our full bathroom renovation service.

Who is responsible if something goes wrong?

With fit-only, products are covered by the seller's or manufacturer's warranty, and the fitter's guarantee covers their workmanship. That is why it is worth having the delivery checked before work starts. We check customer-supplied products for damage and missing parts before any work starts, so problems are sorted with the seller first. See our fit-only bathroom installation service.

Is it cheaper to buy your own bathroom suite?

It can be, if you find a good deal, because you only pay the fitter for the installation. In return, you take on choosing, ordering and checking every product, and dealing with the seller if anything is wrong. Compare the total cost of both options, including any extras you might forget, such as wastes, fixings and spare tiles. Delivery charges add up too.

Will bathroom fitters fit my own suite?

Many will, including us. Our fit-only service covers the strip-out, plumbing and fitting, tiling and flooring, and electrics by a registered electrician. We check your products for damage and missing parts before any work starts, and our 2-year workmanship guarantee covers the fitting. The products themselves are covered by the seller's or manufacturer's warranty. Ask any fitter how they handle damaged deliveries.

Who is responsible for a faulty product on a fit-only job?

The seller or manufacturer, under their warranty and your consumer rights, because you bought the product from them. The fitter's guarantee covers their workmanship, not the product. This is why it helps to have the delivery checked before the old bathroom is removed, so any damage is sorted out with the seller first. We check every delivery before we start work.

What should I buy for a fit-only bathroom?

Everything the products need to be fitted: the suite, taps, wastes, traps, shower and its fittings, plus tiles with around 10% extra for cuts. Tell your fitter what you plan to buy before you order, so they can point out anything that may not suit the room or your water system. Measure doorways and stairs too. Keep everything boxed and dry until fitting.
